Preserves: A Refined Script for Real Design Work
Designer Notes You’ll Actually Use
- Test Preserves in black and white first—no color tricks masking weak contrast or uneven stroke weight.
- Check readability at 16px on a real device, not just in Figma. I caught spacing issues on iOS Safari that didn’t appear in desktop previews.
- Always mock it up on physical samples—especially for packaging design. What reads beautifully on screen can flatten on matte stock.
- Compare uppercase and lowercase usage side-by-side. Preserves’ all-caps setting is tight and intentional, but lacks the airiness of its lowercase—use caps sparingly, only where emphasis matters more than rhythm.
- Review kerning pairs manually. While overall spacing is solid, ‘To’, ‘We’, and ‘Th’ benefit from slight manual adjustment in logo work.
- Test font pairing early: try Preserves beside a serif font (for contrast), a sans serif font (for balance), and a minimalist display font (to confirm it doesn’t get lost).
- Confirm commercial licensing before adding Preserves to Canva templates, digital products, or client deliverables. Script Amp offers clear commercial terms—but verify usage scope matches your project (e.g., extended license for unlimited end products).
